Teaching

Teaching history and approach

As a student Tom travelled Europe in search of the best professors and this knowledge has greatly influenced his own approach to teaching. Firstly he looks to know what drives a student to want to improve and then help them achieve this by making their approach to the instrument as natural as possible, enhancing their base technique and allowing their own musicality to shine. Having started teaching at the age of 16 Tom has gone on to teach at many of the leading Music Conservatoires in Europe and the USA and is currently the Trumpet Teacher and Head of Brass at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden.  If you are interested to receive tuition from Tom for yourself or a chamber music group please get in touch via the contact form.

Testimonials

Max Asselborn, Tutti Trumpet of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra

I took several lessons with Tom Poulson over the last few months. Tom helped me improve my playing by focusing on both specific aspects and my general attitude towards the musical and the technical part of trumpet playing. His lessons were always positive and demanding, and I was able to take away many positive things that aided me greatly on stage. Thank you Tom!
