Tom Poulson

Renowned for his musicality and artistry, Tom Poulson is widely regarded as one of the leading and most versatile musicians of his generation.  He was placed 2nd at the prestigious Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments, also winning the Trumpet and Contemporary Performance prizes, and now combines his performing around the world with being the Trumpet Teacher and Head of Brass at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden.

“Everything landed in a beauty and dynamic in such stark contrast to the contemporary tragedy, that I almost lost my breath and began to cry where I sat.”

-Camilla Dal - Gefle Dagblad

Michael Tumelty – The Herald

“I couldn't get the smile off my face during Oliver Searle's trumpet Sequenza, which seemed to me enormously witty, conjuring an image of an overweight hornet buzzing grumpily as it repeatedly attempted take-off, somewhat hindered by a hefty derriere which remained firmly earthbound. Tom Poulson's performance was staggering.”

Teaching

Tom is currently the Trumpet Teacher and Head of Brass at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden, and has given masterclasses for brass and chamber music in many of the leading Music Conservatoires in Europe and the USA. His approach to teaching is to help the student find the most natural and efficient way to play their instrument so that they can allow their playing to match their musical goals.
