Västerås Sinfonietta Koranyis Haydn, Västerås Konserthus, Västerås, Sweden - 28/09/17 @ 19:00
Our composer in residence this season is Mirjam Tally. She is born in Tallinn but has lived in Gotland since 2006. Her music has been played in some 20 countries, including festivals in Barcelona and Venice and here we shall perform her Lightfields, whose name is from a poem by Edith Södergran, an important source of inspiration for her. Mirjam describes the music as a longing and motion toward the light.
The most well-known Swedish music exports are songwriters and opera singers, but they also have many fantastic instrumentalists. One of them is the cellist Jakob Koranyi who, after winning the 2006 Solo Prize, is a regular soloist with orchestras across the world. While there is an abundance of piano and violin concertos in the classical repertoire, it is relatively few with cello concertos. Before Schumann, cellists can resort to the two concertos that Haydn wrote. For the C-major concerto, Jakob has written his own cadenza that will be something out of the ordinary.
